Christian Horner insists Sergio Pérez must improve, stressing the importance of both Red Bull cars scoring points to fend off Ferrari and McLaren threats.
Christian Horner admits Sergio Pérez’s weekend in Monaco was subpar. The Red Bull driver was knocked out in Q1 and got involved in an avoidable first-lap collision. The team principal hopes the trend will reverse soon.
“This weekend was pretty brutal for him,” Horner said. “We need to ensure both our cars score points because we can’t discount the threat from Ferrari and McLaren in both championships.”
According to Horner, Pérez just needs to regain the positive momentum he had recently: “In the first six races, Checo was very strong. He was qualifying on the front row, finishing second and third, and scoring excellent points. We just need to get him back in a positive frame of mind and not let him slip.”
Horner assures this won’t affect Red Bull’s decisions regarding the 2025 seats: “Not really. I think it’s more a matter of timing. We will make a decision in due course.”
