Horner’s 20-Year Reign Transforms Red Bull’s Legacy

Christian Horner: Two Decades of F1 Leadership

09/01/2025

Christian Horner celebrates 20 years leading Red Bull Racing, marking an unprecedented milestone in modern Formula 1 team management.

Christian Horner, just 51 years old, marked his 20th anniversary as head of the Red Bull Racing team this January.

A record tenure for the team principal, who was appointed on January 7, 2005, to lead a team built from the foundations of Jaguar Racing.

The Briton reflects on this achievement, having witnessed numerous other team principals come and go across the grid.

“I remember my first Formula 1 Commission meeting at Heathrow in 2005.”

“Ron Dennis was there, Flavio Briatore was there, and Jean Todt represented Ferrari. Bernie Ecclestone chaired the meeting alongside Max Mosley, and so on. I recall attending that meeting, where many things were discussed, but absolutely nothing was agreed upon. When I left, I was quite puzzled—apart from the day of the week and the time of the next meeting, nothing had been decided.”

“It truly felt like another world. I thought to myself, this is the start of a major political game! I’ve seen so many team principals come and go, teams born and folded, and I can’t count how many rule proposals have been floated.”

“And I’m ultimately pleased to see the significant progress Formula 1 has made over the past 20 years.”
