Faith and Resilience: Horner’s Scandal Survival at Red Bull

27/12/2024

Christian Horner defied scandal fallout, relying on self-belief and trust in Red Bull’s process to maintain his leadership.

Few would have bet on Christian Horner still leading the Red Bull Racing team by the end of 2024, following the scandal that emerged at the start of the year.

The team principal was accused of inappropriate behavior both at the workplace and outside by his assistant. Although the case has now been closed without any charges being brought against the Briton (at least after internal investigations), it significantly impacted Red Bull Racing’s image.

Despite the media storm, Horner stood firm, supported by the majority shareholders, the Thai group. According to him, the team also held its ground to secure at least one championship title this season.

“In tough times, when stones are thrown at you, it really galvanizes a team. I think there was a bit of a ‘Fuck you’ attitude from the team this year. Our people said: ‘We are a strong team, no matter what you throw at us, bring it on.'”

More than once, Horner faced calls for his resignation. However, the Briton remained in his position.

“I never felt I had to leave. I believed in myself. I believed in the process. I trusted the process, which was rigorously followed by the company, and I simply had to trust it.”

Horner states he received substantial support from his colleagues and the company leadership.

“I received tremendous support and backing from the shareholders and within the company. The support the team gave me and the way they stood by me, I will never forget.”
