Horner Signals Perez’s 2025 Future with Sponsor Boost

Perez Secures New Sponsors as 2025 Seat Gains Support

12/11/2024

New sponsors align with Perez for 2025, signaling stronger Red Bull backing and reinforcing his place alongside Verstappen next season.

Powerful commercial interests appear poised to solidify Sergio Perez’s place at Red Bull Racing for 2025.

Despite his contract, the Mexican’s future has been under a shadow all season due to struggles with the current car—causing Red Bull to fall behind McLaren and Ferrari in the lucrative Constructors’ Championship.

However, Perez insisted recently at Interlagos, “You will see me in Las Vegas, and you will see me next year.”

This week, rumors suggest that one of Perez’s sponsors, who also supports the team, has organized a television series focused on the 34-year-old driver’s 2025 campaign.

Now, according to the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, “several new sponsors linked to Perez for 2025 have signed with Red Bull.”

In response, team boss Christian Horner has reportedly given the go-ahead to start producing team gear and merchandise for 2025 featuring the new sponsors’ names.

The new sponsor’s name is not yet known, but it would join Claro, Telcel, and Infinitum—all part of the Carlos Slim group—as well as Interproteccion, a global brokerage supporting Perez for years.

Other sponsors associated with Perez include Banorte, ESPN, Jalisco, and Uber.

These are driver-linked sponsors, tied solely to Perez remaining in his seat, as they would withdraw their investment and follow Perez to a new team otherwise.

And, interestingly, another sponsor of Perez—the Nestlé chocolate bar KitKat—has also just become a global sponsor of Formula 1 (read here).

As for Red Bull’s Perez-specific sponsors, they would cover his annual $10 million salary and still leave the team with an additional $30 million, enough to offset Constructors’ Championship losses.

At the recent Mexican GP, Horner had to acknowledge Perez’s commercial appeal.

“Look, Checo is our driver. He has a contract for 2025,” he stated.

“It’s clear we’re giving him huge support. I think he’s promoting everything from Uber Eats to toilet paper this weekend, so it’s impressive how many sponsors he’s managed to bring in for himself.”

However, at the Brazilian GP, Horner emphasized that Red Bull is still keeping its options open for 2025.

“Liam Lawson did a great job in Brazil, and there’s Yuki Tsunoda. Liam, especially, given his experience. Franco (Colapinto) is another talent. So, of course, you always need to keep an eye on the market to see how things evolve.”
