Horner: Verstappen’s penalties are ‘a touch too harsh’

27/10/2024

Christian Horner challenges FIA decisions, questioning the severity of penalties given to Max Verstappen during his battle with Lando Norris.

Christian Horner, the Red Bull team principal, clearly holds a differing view from Zak Brown.

In his opinion, Max Verstappen was harshly penalised during his battle with Lando Norris, deeming the two cumulative 10-second penalties as “a touch too severe.”

“Max went off the track at turn 4 and then again at turn 7, while Lando left the door open very late, leading both to take the escape route.”

“The issue, as I see it, is that we’re venturing into a very dangerous area—namely, at what point will a dive bomb become acceptable?”

“I believe the FIA and the drivers really need to come together and agree on what is and isn’t acceptable. I felt that two 10-second penalties were a bit too harsh today.”

“We always need to play by the rules. We’ll review and learn from this race, but what stood out most for us today is that we simply didn’t have the pace. That’s what we’ll focus on over the next five days.”
