Christian Horner supports Mohammed Ben Sulayem, emphasizing the FIA’s sole authority in drafting and enforcing Formula 1 regulations.
“FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem recently pushed back against F1 drivers united under the GPDA banner.
According to him, an F1 driver’s role is to race, not to interfere with regulations or how the FIA manages them, particularly through stewards, which he stated is ‘absolutely none of their business.’
The GPDA has yet to respond, with the holiday season already underway.
However, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has stepped in to support Ben Sulayem on certain points.
‘Well, he’s absolutely right. It’s the FIA’s role, as the sport’s regulator, to draft and enforce the regulations. When you enter the championship at the start of the year, you sign on the dotted line to adhere to those rules.’
‘So, it’s not the job of drivers or teams to write the regulations, nor should it be, as that would create a significant conflict of interest in the intent behind those regulations.’
‘He’s absolutely right to say that it’s the FIA’s responsibility to oversee and regulate the sport.'”
