Christian Horner strongly supports the return of V10 engines in F1, believing sustainable fuels could make this iconic powertrain a viable future option.
The return of V10 engines in Formula 1 is a seriously considered option, among others, by F1 and the FIA.
Following the FIA president’s announcement a few days ago, the Federation confirmed that a Vision 2030 working group is studying a potential comeback for this engine configuration, which could regain favor with the introduction of sustainable fuels.
This proposal is expected to receive strong support within the paddock, starting with Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing’s team principal, who has already expressed his desire to see these powerful and melodious engines return.
“Personally, from a sporting perspective, looking at what the future of Formula 1 engines should be beyond the next generation, I think the way sustainable fuel is evolving opens up all kinds of possibilities.”
“We have ended up with a very, very expensive and highly complex engine from 2026.”
“The purest part of me would love to see a responsibly manufactured V10 powered by sustainable fuel. A resounding yes!”
“If reintroduced, the sound of Grand Prix racing would be magical. It’s an interesting concept to keep an eye on, certainly for potential implementation after the current and upcoming regulations in 2026.”
