Honda seeks to end its partnership with Red Bull triumphantly, aiming to secure both F1 world titles in their final year.
Honda has promised to keep supplying Red Bull with an engine capable of securing both world titles in 2025, as they look to end their final year together back on top in both championships.
After joining forces in 2019, Red Bull and Honda will part ways at the close of 2025, with the Japanese supplier initially choosing to withdraw from F1 before returning to partner with Aston Martin F1.
Though Honda reversed its decision in 2023, Red Bull had already opted to become an engine manufacturer. Since that announcement, Honda has been working with Red Bull Powertrains as the Milton Keynes-based facility gets up and running.
After such a successful partnership, Honda President Koji Watanabe promised Christian Horner that both titles would return to Milton Keynes in 2025.
“I promised Horner that we would definitely reclaim the constructors’ title next year,” Watanabe said. “In 2025, our final season together, we will finish with both crowns, including the drivers’ championship.”
Horner repeated that they would not have decided to become an engine supplier had Honda not withdrawn.
“For Red Bull, we are no longer a customer. Having the power unit on site, fully integrated with the chassis, and the synergies that come from having engine and chassis engineers side by side, is hugely beneficial in the long term. But we wouldn’t have taken this step without Honda’s withdrawal. And as you know, we had already set everything in motion by the time they changed their minds.
“We have a new title together this season; let’s aim to wrap it up with both championships and bring our partnership to a close on a high note.”
