With its high-speed action and Hollywood flair, the upcoming F1 movie aims to captivate new audiences—just like Drive to Survive did.
The final trailer for the highly anticipated F1 movie, set to hit cinemas in June, dropped on Thursday night (watch below). In it, Brad Pitt’s character clashes with his rookie teammate, played by Damson Idris. He’s meant to guide him, but the tension is clear.
Beyond the Hollywood spectacle, this film is a major commercial play for Formula 1. Williams team boss James Vowles, who even made a brief appearance on the Abu Dhabi grid during filming, was asked what he expects from it.
“I reckon they’ve cut my part,” Vowles joked, before comparing the film’s potential impact to Drive to Survive. “Look at what Top Gun did for aviation. It was massive.”
“Netflix didn’t just film from the sidelines—they completely reshaped the sport’s popularity. I believe this film will reach a new, bigger audience, and that’s why we’re all excited.”

From what he’s seen so far, Vowles is impressed by how realistic it looks. “They’ve avoided the classic mistake of making F1 drivers look like they have a turbo boost. It feels authentic, and that’s what grabbed me.”
Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, is just as optimistic. “James is right—Netflix has helped massively. If you look back at 2018 or 2019, F1 was in a very different place.”
“Netflix brought in new fans, and I hope this film does the same. Right now, F1 is targeting a younger, more diverse audience—more women, more Gen Z—just like Drive to Survive did. From what I’ve seen, this film could be something special.”
Aston Martin F1’s Andy Cowell agrees. “I’m with these guys—Netflix turned them into stars!” he laughed, before mentioning the importance of big events like the F1 75 launch in London.
“The O2 launch too—different kind of event, different way to connect with people. Between the races, the entertainment side of F1 keeps growing, and we’re all for it. Can’t wait to see the film.”
