Lewis Hamilton, a self-proclaimed Italian food lover, admits indulging in pizza—but knows he must stay disciplined to fit into his car.
Hamilton enjoys living in Italy since joining Ferrari. After leaving Mercedes F1, the Briton reveals that he has rediscovered the Italian cuisine he loves—and sends himself a warning.
“The truth is, I’ve already eaten quite a few pizzas, but I’ve still lost weight. Last week, I had three pizzas!” Hamilton said with a smile. “I love Italian food, I’ve always loved it.”
“I remember coming here, and I certainly remember the time when I was racing with Nico [Rosberg], when we used to get ice cream every night, and we ate a lot of pizzas, so I think pizza is always the first thing to go for.”
“Penna arrabbiata has always been my favorite dish, and then one of my favorite meals—which I don’t eat anymore—but I had these incredible lasagnas, made by my first mechanic, Luca Del Fante, and his wife’s mother made me the most amazing lasagna when I was 13, and I never forgot them.”
But the seven-time world champion acknowledges that he’ll have to watch his weight: “But yeah, I’ll have to watch my diet—it’s going to be tough. I have to be careful. I can’t eat pizzas all year, otherwise, I won’t fit in the car!”
