Norris Backs Hamilton: ‘I’d Do the Same at Ferrari’

13/02/2025

Lando Norris supports Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari switch, dismissing critics and admitting he’d make the same move if in his position.

Lando Norris admitted that he would have joined Ferrari if he were in Lewis Hamilton’s position. The McLaren F1 driver disagrees with critics who believe his compatriot is making a mistake by joining the Scuderia.

“It’s a great story for him to go to Ferrari after everything he has achieved,” Norris said. “It’s an interesting step. A lot of people have said it’s probably not the right thing to do, but I would surely do the same if I were in his place.”

“It’s cool. It’s an extraordinary story for him. I know he will want to go there with a fresh mindset and show everyone that he is still the Lewis Hamilton he has been for so many years. We’ll wait and see how it goes.”

However, Norris insists that Hamilton joining a rival team changes nothing for him. He also praised the on-track battles he has had with the seven-time world champion: “When I’m on track, it makes no difference. He is a competitor, and he’s someone I want to beat.”

“It’s the same as when you’re racing against anyone. There are always drivers you give extra room to, and there are those you know you can race closely with, and Lewis is one of those guys.”

“I hope I get the chance to race against him more often this year. It’s always an honor to compete against someone like him. It’s something I look forward to, and I want to prove myself. He wants to prove himself too, and he will keep doing so and fighting until he steps away from Formula 1.”

Notably, as expected, McLaren F1 confirmed this morning that its new car will be named the MCL39. The team has yet to announce when it will be unveiled. For now, we only know that its new livery will be revealed—necessarily, like all teams—during the F1 75 show in London next Tuesday.
