Lewis Hamilton believes Ferrari’s SF-25 has much more pace than shown in Melbourne, insisting they didn’t unlock its full potential this weekend.
Ferrari’s start in Melbourne was anything but impressive.
And for Lewis Hamilton, the weekend was particularly challenging, despite tricky weather conditions that could have worked in his favor during the race.
The SF-25 remains a handful to drive, even in the rain. However, the seven-time world champion is convinced that his car has far more potential than what was shown on track.
“I’m not sure if we had the same pace as the McLarens, but I know this Ferrari is much more capable than what we demonstrated. We didn’t fully exploit its potential this weekend.”
“From the moment I got in the car on Friday, I struggled with confidence, especially at high speeds. I felt like I was always on the back foot. But by Saturday, I was finding my rhythm, improving, step by step.”
Yet, when race day arrived, all that progress seemed to disappear. Why?
“We went into the race, and it was like starting from scratch again. I didn’t have confidence for most of it. The car was tricky to get right—it felt unpredictable.”
But Hamilton is already pinpointing areas where Ferrari can improve.
“There are a lot of things, especially with the setup. I was constantly adjusting the car from the cockpit, making different decisions at different stages of the race. Just from this weekend alone, I’ve learned a lot.”
While Melbourne may have been a tough test, Hamilton is confident that Ferrari has much more to offer—and unlocking that performance will be key in the races to come.
