Despite mounting pressure and Hamilton’s doubts, Ferrari continues to invest in its 2025 F1 car while rivals gain serious ground.
Ferrari is not yet abandoning its 2025 car, the SF-25, to focus entirely on 2026.
Lewis Hamilton is reportedly growing increasingly pessimistic within the Maranello-based team and disagrees with continuing development on the current car. The Briton would prefer to dedicate all resources to the new 2026 regulations.
“We are going to keep moving forward with what we have, but before it’s too late, I’ll simply say that everything needs to be focused on next year. It’s about laying the foundations this year, getting familiar with the tools, the structure, and the processes, and mastering them so that next year we have the car we really want.”
Team principal Frédéric Vasseur, however, believes there is still room for improvement with the 2025 car, and Ferrari is now only trailing McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship.
“We’ve made up a lot of the big gap we had at the start,” the Frenchman says.
“But we are here to win. And McLaren is way too far ahead.”
In fact, the gap between McLaren and Ferrari has already reached the staggering figure of 197 points, which is more than Ferrari’s total points so far.
Worse still, Ferrari’s hopes that the directive on flexible wings would penalize McLaren in Barcelona were completely unfounded.
“They still clearly have the best car,” Vasseur admits.
Nevertheless, with Red Bull also conceding that McLaren is becoming increasingly out of reach, it would be a bit strange for all the other teams to simply give up after nine rounds in a 24-race calendar.
“We are going to continue development,” Vasseur confirms.
Reports indicate that a new rear suspension configuration is in the works at Maranello.
“We don’t want to reveal anything. There are visible updates that must be announced, and others that must remain unseen.”
