Hamilton Stays Strong Amid Speculation on F1 Future

Hamilton: “Nothing Will Bring Me Down” After Wolff’s Words

21/11/2024

Lewis Hamilton responds firmly to Toto Wolff’s comments, vowing to remain resilient despite speculation about his future in F1.

Lewis Hamilton vowed that “nothing can bring me down” in response to comments from his current Mercedes F1 boss, Toto Wolff, who suggested that every individual in Formula 1 has a “limited shelf life.”

Hamilton’s decision to sign a deal with Ferrari from 2025 will mark the end of the sport’s most successful driver-team partnership once the season concludes.

However, Wolff claimed that one positive aspect of Hamilton’s imminent departure is that it “avoids the moment when he would have had to end the association.”

Wolff has since clarified those remarks, stating that his comments were taken “out of context.” While he reiterated his belief that every individual eventually becomes less effective, he denied implying that Hamilton had already passed his peak.

“I spoke to Toto earlier,” Hamilton revealed in Las Vegas.

“I honestly didn’t see what was going on in the news until this weekend, so I wasn’t keeping track. But it makes no difference to me.”

“I think he clarified his stance. Toto has been hugely supportive over the years, so it doesn’t really matter. It’s good that he clarified what he meant because I don’t think I’m outdated or anything like that!”

Hamilton then emphasized that he has become accustomed to ignoring negative comments aimed at unsettling him.

“Just being here, standing tall in front of you, I feel strong, I’ve trained well.”

“Honestly, I feel like I’m in the best mental shape of my life, and considering how poor the last race was, I think that says a lot.”

“I’ve been in this industry a long time. So much has been said about me.”

“There have been so many micro-aggressions—not from my boss, as he’s been supportive—but in general, nothing can bring me down. And nothing will bring me down.”

“I’m still here, still fighting, and I’ll keep pushing.”

“We have a team I still love, and even if I leave, I want to make sure I give them my very best in the upcoming races.”

Hamilton, however, revealed that his radio message at the end of the disastrous Brazilian GP was indeed a hint at wanting to walk away from his contract.

“I mean, in that moment, that’s how I felt, like I didn’t really want to come back after that weekend.”

“But I think that’s completely natural. It’s frustrating when you go through a season like this one—a season I’m almost certain I won’t experience again, or at least I’ll do everything to avoid repeating.”

“It wasn’t a great feeling at the time, but I’m here, I’m strong, and I’ll give my all for these final races.”
