Lewis Hamilton has taken a jab at Max Verstappen’s doubts about winning this year’s championship.
Lewis Hamilton has taken a jab at his former 2021 title rival, Max Verstappen, over comments concerning this year’s world championship.
The Red Bull driver has indicated he doubts his ability to fend off McLaren F1 and Lando Norris for the world title with the current RB20, despite his 62-point lead.
“He said it’s not realistic for him to win either of the two titles?” responded a shocked Hamilton.
“Shocked, yes… I mean, that’s his opinion, obviously, how he feels at this moment, but he’s quite far ahead,” added the seven-time world champion with a laugh.
Hamilton, who has won two races at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, admits that the current level of competition in F1 is “incredible.”
“This is how it should be. It’s probably the ultimate goal of F1 and the FIA when they set the rules, but it almost never works.”
“So it’s great that we’re finally at this stage where McLaren has had a strong rise, you see Ferrari winning in the last race, and us before that.”
“I hope that in the next eight races, you’ll see something even closer, and that it remains this tight, I hope.”
