Hamilton Impressed by Leclerc’s Work Ethic: “He’s Really Mr. Ferrari”

Lewis Hamilton admits he was caught off guard by Charles Leclerc’s relentless work ethic since joining Ferrari, calling him “Mr. Ferrari.”

Since his move in late January, Hamilton has spent plenty of time alongside Leclerc, both in private pre-season testing and at various team events. Naturally, he’s gotten to know his new teammate better.

During the FIA press conference ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion was asked what had stood out the most about Leclerc.

With his trademark humor, Hamilton first joked, “Apart from his great hair? His eyes. He’s a handsome guy!” But on a more serious note, he added, “What surprised me the most? His work ethic. It’s really impressive.”

“You don’t always see what happens behind the scenes,” he continued. “Of course, every driver works hard, but everyone has their own way of reaching peak performance. And watching him up close has been really interesting.”

Hamilton also acknowledged Leclerc’s deep roots at Ferrari, saying, “He’s been with the team for a long time—it’s his second home. He’s truly Mr. Ferrari. Working with him over the winter has been fantastic, and I’m really looking forward to this season together.”

Sainz Praises His Former Teammate

Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari meant the departure of Carlos Sainz, who has since moved to Williams. But despite the switch, Sainz had nothing but praise for Leclerc.

“I don’t think anyone needs to talk about his talent and speed. Everyone knows it,” said Sainz. “He’s doing an incredible job and has played a big role in Ferrari’s recent progress. He’s also a great ambassador for the team. Hats off to him!”

Sainz believes Leclerc is at his peak: “He’s grown as a driver and as a person. He seems mature, confident, and ready to win. So let’s see what he and Lewis can achieve together this year.”

With two elite drivers behind the wheel, Ferrari’s 2024 season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in years.
