Lewis Hamilton embarks on his emotional farewell tour with Mercedes F1 at Petronas, marking the end of a historic partnership.

Lewis Hamilton paid a final visit to Petronas employees in Malaysia before retiring from his role as a Mercedes F1 driver. With 84 wins, 78 pole positions, and 153 podiums in 246 races under the Malaysian oil company’s colors, the seven-time world champion could only pay tribute to them.

“I remember the first time I came to the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, after seeing them in films, and I couldn’t believe I was here and working with an organization like this,” Hamilton recalls.

“I’m very proud to be part of a partnership between our team and PETRONAS that has been so successful, one of the greatest in the history of the sport. We’ve achieved far more than we ever thought possible. I will never forget these 12 years, and through all the highs and lows, I’ve always felt like we were a family.”

“Coming here for the last time as a Mercedes driver brought a lot of emotions. It’s obviously sad in one way, but it’s also beautiful to celebrate everything we’ve done with our Petronas colleagues and the Malaysian fans. It’s always a humbling experience to come here and see the support we’ve received.”

“That support has grown over time, and I’ve been delighted to help Petronas do extraordinary work within the community; we’ve planted mangroves, supported the growth of their university, encouraged kids to engage with STEAM subjects, and much more.”

“I want to thank Petronas for everything we’ve done together, for its incredible products that helped us win, and for all the amazing people I’ve had the chance to work with. I will miss you all.”

Siti Azlina Abd Latif, Petronas’ Strategic Communications Director, praised this final visit: “I know I speak on behalf of all Petronas employees and all of Malaysia in thanking Lewis for the efforts he made to achieve the incredible success we’ve shared over the years.”

“We know that, no matter what his future holds, he will always be part of the PETRONAS family and will be welcomed with open arms every time he returns to Malaysia.”

“The partnership between Petronas and Mercedes has allowed both companies to reach historic levels of innovation, success, and growth, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds.”
