Lewis Hamilton praises F1’s new Monaco pit stop rule, insisting he’s pushed for it for years to improve race strategy and excitement.
Lewis Hamilton was one of the first drivers to applaud F1 and the FIA’s decision to mandate two compulsory pit stops in Monaco.
The Federation detailed how this rule would be applied, depending on weather conditions as well (full details available here).
What does the Ferrari driver think of this new pit stop regulation in Monaco? Nothing but good things… as he has been advocating for it for years!
“Two stops? I’ve had this idea for a very long time, years—if not at least ten!”

“I’m pretty sure it was my idea anyway. But if you go back and check some of my press conferences in Monaco over the years, I’ve been talking about two stops for a long time.”
“I think Monaco needs at least two stops. A single stop has never really been great. This Grand Prix is a fantastic race, but I believe it has more to offer—hopefully—with more than one pit stop.”
“But I don’t think it will fix everything. We’ll still have overtaking issues and all that, but it will make the race more exciting with multiple strategies to complete the two stops. So I’m fully in favor.”
