Lewis Hamilton says the new F1 film with Brad Pitt is vital to inspire diverse young talent into motorsport and STEM careers.
Hamilton says the film F1, which he helped produce, is crucial in demonstrating to children the diversity the sport can offer in the future.
The 40-year-old Briton worked as a producer on the film alongside Brad Pitt, which is set to release on June 25.
He hopes the movie will carry forward the mission of his foundation, Mission 44, which aims to support young people from all backgrounds in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
“Wherever I go, even today, I don’t see anyone who looks like me. Very, very few people who look like me.”

“For example, with the Formula 1 film, diversity was an important topic when I first started discussing the project. We need to show what Formula 1 can be and what it should strive to become.”
“And it’s really important for people to see that, because if a child sees it — no matter where they come from or what their gender is — if they can see it and say, ‘Oh, I could be there too,’ they believe it’s possible.”
“And for me, when I was a kid watching Formula 1, no one looked like me.”
“But I’m crazy, because I told myself I didn’t care. I tried everything. And in my mind, I didn’t have many barriers.”
“But I know many kids see this. And that’s what I’m most proud of. We’re also working with Ferrari to explore how to improve entry pathways in terms of diversity at Ferrari.”
