Hamilton Eyes Ferrari's Gains Ahead of 2024 Switch

Hamilton Monitors Ferrari’s Surge as 2024 Move Nears

01/11/2024

Lewis Hamilton closely observes Ferrari’s progress this season, impressed by the strides made as he prepares to join in 2024.

Lewis Hamilton will join Ferrari next year, and the Mercedes F1 driver admitted he is keeping an eye on what the Scuderia is achieving this year, notably with the impressive progress made towards the end of the season.

“I’m very focused on my future, of course. And so, in that respect, I keep an eye, yes. I observe everything that’s happening,” said the seven-time world champion regarding the Scuderia.

He also acknowledges being impressed by the team’s progress since the season began: “Absolutely. Throughout the year, at the start of the year, if you look somewhere like China, Red Bull had a one-second lead.”

“And it’s quite amazing to see the rise of McLaren, then Ferrari in recent races, to see their progress and to try to keep an eye on everyone’s cars, on what they’re changing and adding. You know, we all watch onboard videos, every driver.”

“And we’re always trying to see where we can gain time. Some cars react differently, better or worse in certain areas. And you try to figure out how you can find that in your balance or get the team to develop the car in that direction.”

Hamilton admits feeling somewhat frustrated watching the title fight from a distance but expects Mercedes to keep making progress next year: “Of course, that’s what we all wanted, to be in the championship fight. That’s what everyone works for.”

“We knew from the start of the year that it would be tough right away, and we didn’t expect the success we’ve had. Obviously, at Silverstone, everyone worked very hard to get that result, and I’m incredibly grateful to the team for it.”

“But yes, I know this team very well, and I know that the results and position we’re in this year will only motivate them to work even harder to have a better car next year.”

“And no, I don’t really watch what’s happening up front unless I’m in the battle or behind, like in the last race. I saw them for a second, then they disappeared. But yes, I’m focused on trying to do the best job possible.”
