Lewis Hamilton lauds Adrian Newey’s potential 2025 move to Ferrari as ‘incredible’, highlighting the synergy between top talents.
Lewis Hamilton stated in Miami that Adrian Newey’s potential signing with Ferrari would be “incredible” if it could materialize as speculated.
Newey has confirmed all the rumors by announcing his departure from Red Bull at the beginning of 2025, also shortening his notice period concerning F1 to this year as he will no longer have a role in it. Instead, he must focus on finalizing Red Bull’s Hypercar project, the RB17.
Newey, considered the greatest F1 designer, will be free to join a team from April 2025. According to the latest paddock news, he already had a meeting with a Ferrari representative last week and with Frédéric Vasseur, who was in London this Tuesday.
If Newey joined Scuderia, he would work with Hamilton, who has signed a multi-year contract to join Ferrari starting in 2025.
“Adrian has an impressive history and track record. He has obviously done incredible work throughout his career and has committed to the teams and knowledge he possesses. I think he would be a great addition,” said Hamilton.
“Ferrari already has a great team. They are already making huge progress, their car is faster this year. It would be a privilege to work with Adrian, it would be incredible.”
When asked how much he would like to see Newey join Ferrari, Hamilton added simply and concisely: “Very much so!”
Hamilton was then asked if he had spoken to Ferrari about the possibility of Newey actually coming. The seven-time world champion replied with a smile: “Those are just private conversations, but if I were to make a list of people I would like to work with, he would absolutely be at the top of the list.”
Newey had left McLaren just before Hamilton’s arrival in 2007. Hamilton narrowly missed the championship by one point in his first year, only to win it twelve months later.
“When I joined McLaren, I think it was an evolution of his car. This car had evolved from a concept he had worked on. So, I felt privileged to have had the chance to race in an F1 car he had worked on.”
Hamilton does not expect the gap between Red Bull and the others to suddenly close.
“We just have to remember that there are many people in the background and that there is no single key person. It’s not one person who makes the strength of a team or a car. It’s a whole team of people who do the work. So, you can imagine that among all the incredible knowledge he has brought to his team, the people he works with will continue to do amazing work because they too hold that knowledge. I expect Red Bull to continue to build great F1 cars in the future.”
