Hamilton overcomes persistent qualifying issues, clinching third while expressing thanks to his team.
Lewis Hamilton clocked the third fastest time in the qualifying rounds at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Mercedes F1 driver appeared relieved to have finally managed to boost his performance in qualifying, maximising the potential of his car.
“Firstly, thank you to the fans who were incredible today, and thank you to everyone for their support. Many of my followers have travelled here,” stated the seven-time world champion, before commending his own performance.
“Qualifying has been a disaster for me all year, I’ve worked hard to get back on form and the car really came alive today in qualifying for the first time in a long time. It was tough to nail that lap, and perhaps there was a bit more potential in the car.”
“The mechanics have been back and forth all weekend adjusting the balance, changing everything, and they made no mistakes, so a huge thanks to them. We are in a strong position to compete tomorrow.”
When asked about his expectations for the race, the British driver preferred to remain cautious: “One day at a time! Today was much better; we finally had a good front end on the car. But the McLarens have been very fast, I hope we can manage the tyres as well as they have.”
