Lewis Hamilton says goodbye to Mercedes, ending a historic chapter with an emotional farewell at the team’s UK bases.
Lewis Hamilton has completed his heartfelt farewells to Mercedes in Formula 1 ahead of his move to Ferrari in 2025.
The farewell tour, which began with a visit to Petronas, Mercedes’ title sponsor, at the energy giant’s Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, concluded at Mercedes F1’s chassis and engine factories in England, following a stop at Mercedes headquarters in Stuttgart.
For one last time, Hamilton addressed the Mercedes F1 team staff, with whom he achieved 84 wins, 78 pole positions, 153 podiums, six Drivers’ World Championships, and eight Constructors’ World Championships since joining in 2013.
“You know, Mercedes changed my life.”
“I grew up in Stevenage dreaming of one day being in Formula 1 and becoming World Champion. Back then, it was just me and my two parents. I didn’t know there would be so many people I’d work with, people who would lift me up and take me on this journey to achieve so much.”
“I’ll always be watching the screens to see how you’re doing. I’ll always wish you the best.”
“I believe in you. I’ll keep believing in you. And when you achieve great success again, I’ll be so proud of you, knowing I was, hopefully, a small part of the dream you’re also living.”
“So, a huge thank you to all of you. All my love. I want to wish you and your families all the best.”
“As I leave, you’re going to have so much more success in the future because this is an incredible group of people. There’s so much talent and passion here, and anyone would be lucky to work with you.”
“I hope that when I stop racing, I can come back and visit you all, knowing we’ll always have these great memories to look back on.”
Reflecting on the success they shared, Hamilton acknowledged that these achievements make it “all the harder to let go” and move on.
“You know, what a journey. No driver in the world has had this experience with a team, and that makes it all the harder to let go. But I take with me the best memories. You’ve been part of my dream, and I hope I’ve been part of yours too.”
“So, a huge, huge thank you from the bottom of my heart. My family also thanks you for your dedication over all these years, so a big, big thank you to everyone. God bless you.”
Looking back on an emotional week of farewells, Hamilton added on Instagram: “This is really it. After Abu Dhabi, after Kuala Lumpur, and after Stuttgart, it ends here in Brackley.”
“This is home. To the thousands of people working in Brackley and Brixworth, you’ve been friends and teammates, and I can’t thank you enough for all your hard work and support.”
“It was real.”
