Hamilton Calls for Ceasefire in Israel-Hamas Conflict

Lewis Hamilton has publicly demanded a ceasefire amid escalating violence between Israel and Hamas, leveraging his vast social media influence for peace.

Israel dispatched troops to Gaza in October following an attack by Hamas gunmen. Militia members entered Israel, killing approximately 1,200 individuals and taking another 250 hostage in the country’s most severe attack to date.

In retaliation, Israel has initiated a military offensive in Gaza, reportedly resulting in the death of around 28,000 people so far. The country has also displaced a significant portion of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents, inflicted extensive damage on its infrastructure, and exposed its entire population to the risk of severe food insecurity, according to the United States.

Hamilton, who boasts 36 million followers on Instagram alone, has called for an end to the violence and the release of hostages.

“I am sending my love and support to all Palestinians enduring this sacred time amidst danger, loss, and sorrow. In this holy month for so many in the region, we must continue to advocate for a permanent ceasefire and the return of hostages so that families can be together and safe from the constant threat of destruction and violence.”

“Ceasefire now,” he added.

Since last year, the FIA has prohibited drivers from making political statements during race weekends, but they are allowed to express their opinions in interviews, in response to questions, and on social media.

Hamilton has also shared a message from Save the Children stating that one in three children under two years old in Gaza is suffering from “acute malnutrition” and is at risk of dying.

The same charity is supported by Daniel Ricciardo during this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix. The RB F1 driver will wear a special helmet designed by a fan, which will be auctioned off after the race to raise funds for Save the Children.
