Sebastian Vettel backs Lewis Hamilton to achieve what he couldn’t — win a championship with Ferrari and make F1 history in red.
Sebastian Vettel is throwing his support behind Lewis Hamilton as the British driver prepares to take on one of the biggest challenges in his Formula 1 career: winning a world title with Ferrari.
Vettel, who won his four world championships with Red Bull Racing, knows exactly how tough it is to succeed in red. He tried — and failed — to bring a title back to Maranello during his own time with Ferrari. Now, he’s hoping Hamilton can pull off what he couldn’t.
Vettel Backs the Brit
“It didn’t really work out for me at Ferrari — mainly because Lewis was dominating with Mercedes,” Vettel admitted. “So now, we’ll see how he does. I’ve got my fingers crossed for him.”
Since stepping away from F1 in 2022 after a quiet stint with Aston Martin, Vettel has stayed close to the sport, even though he recently stepped back from his role with the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA).
“I’ve raced alongside Lewis for many years. We’ve always had a good relationship, and honestly, he’s the most genuine driver on the grid right now,” Vettel said. “His talent is undeniable — the numbers speak for themselves.”
“But what’s even more impressive is how he’s still here, still competitive, and using his platform to make a difference.”
Vettel added: “Of course, I’d love to see him win the championship. But Ferrari also has Charles Leclerc, and I’ve raced with him too — they make a strong pair. In the end, it takes more than just speed to fight for a title all the way to the final races.”
