Lewis Hamilton anticipates a stronger Las Vegas Grand Prix, expecting improvements after challenges marred last year’s inaugural race weekend.
Formula 1 will head to Las Vegas for the second time in the current era in two weeks.
Is Lewis Hamilton, who eagerly anticipated this race in past years, still as enthusiastic after the inaugural event?
What did he think of last year’s event? Did he enjoy all the show-business aspects around it? And does he believe Vegas has fixed last year’s issues (like the manhole cover) that kept fans from seeing on-track action on the first day?
“One of the cool things is that I feel I play a role, even a tiny one, in these races coming to F1. It’s something I always asked for. They would ask where we wanted to race, and I always said Vegas.”
“And all of a sudden, a few years later, we had a race in Vegas. I think with any first race, naturally, on any new circuit, there are always lessons to learn and things that won’t go perfectly. So the weekend as a whole, what happened with the fans, I don’t remember exactly, but it wasn’t the smoothest weekend in that regard, though the race itself was amazing.”
“Looking back, I think they’ll have made so many changes, and it will be even better.”
“But yes, driving under the night lights in Vegas was simply incredible. We didn’t have the car to be at the front, especially that weekend; our Mercedes wasn’t too happy on a track like that, but hopefully, it’ll be a bit better this year.”
“And then, I also talked about Africa, and potentially Rwanda is in the pipeline, which is amazing. I hope it happens in time before I leave. My biggest dream is to make sure I can race there before I retire.”
