Hamilton and Leclerc: F1’s Strongest Pairing?

Ferrari eyes championship glory as Hamilton teams up with Leclerc, a pairing Marc Gené calls the strongest on today’s F1 grid.

That’s the view of Ferrari ambassador and former F1 driver Marc Gené, who believes Scuderia Ferrari now boasts the most powerful driver duo on the grid. Still, he admits it’s bittersweet to see Carlos Sainz leave the team.

Gené praised the chemistry between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, highlighting how they push each other to improve, even if results are still catching up. At the same time, he acknowledged Sainz’s impressive performance at Williams, a team that, surprisingly, outpaced Ferrari in Miami.

“This is the strongest driver lineup in Formula 1 right now. I don’t think you can get better,” said Gené.

“Charles is at a very mature point in his career. He’s grown a lot. He worked alongside Carlos, who’s incredibly precise, technically strong, and organized. He’s also raced next to Seb Vettel. Charles has benefited from having some of the best teammates.”

“Now with Lewis beside him, it’s clear they complement each other. There’s no drama, no politics. They work hard, they challenge one another, and that’s exactly what Ferrari needs.”

Gené added, “Of course, I feel for Carlos. I’m Spanish and I have a close relationship with him. But when you have the chance to bring Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, it’s hard to say no. This was something both sides wanted for a long time, a partnership waiting to happen.”
