Hamilton Acknowledges F1’s Current Era as the ‘Worst’ for Him

Hamilton Calls F1's Current Era His 'Toughest Yet'

Lewis Hamilton admits that he’s facing the toughest challenges of his career with the current era of Formula 1, especially since the introduction of ground effect cars.

The British driver has become somewhat resigned to the growing dominance of Charles Leclerc and Ferrari. Amid rumors of a possible early retirement (read more here), Hamilton has expressed hope that things might improve next year as cars will rely less on ground effect technology. He acknowledges that he has never experienced a regulatory change that has put him in such a difficult position.

“This is the worst, yes,” he said. “With less ground effect, let’s hope things change. Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t know anything about next year’s car, so I’m not spending time thinking about it.”

The seven-time world champion is concerned about a lack of speed, particularly in corners. “He’s been driving this car for a long time, so he knows it really well. There’s a lot of data, for sure. But honestly, the data doesn’t seem that different. I’m just slower in the corners.”

In qualifying, Hamilton feels he’s extracting the maximum performance, but during races, he says he’s tried everything, but the car just won’t cooperate. “I’m trying different things to make a difference. I think I’ll have the same struggles in Miami. I’m not sure how long I’ll have to keep fighting, but it’s really painful.”

Though he plans to try some adjustments in Miami, the British driver remains skeptical about his chances. “I’m not expecting much, but we have slightly different settings. I’ll have to see if this setup aligns with how the car likes to be tuned. He and his team are definitely doing a better job.”
