Isack Hadjar’s emotional moment divided opinions, with Marko calling it “awkward” while Horner defended the young driver’s raw display of passion.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko didn’t hold back when commenting on Isack Hadjar’s emotional reaction after his spin on the formation lap at the Australian Grand Prix.
The young French driver was visibly devastated as he returned to the paddock, still wearing his helmet, and later found unexpected comfort from Lewis Hamilton’s father.
Speaking to the media, Hadjar admitted he was “embarrassed” by his mistake.
But for Marko, the real embarrassment wasn’t the spin—it was Hadjar’s emotional response.
“After that tearful display, it was a bit awkward and embarrassing,” he stated bluntly.
Horner Shows Sympathy
While Marko had no sympathy, Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, took a different stance. Instead of seeing it as “embarrassing,” Horner felt for the young driver.
“It was heartbreaking to see him so devastated after his first Grand Prix,” Horner said.
Despite the disappointment, Horner emphasized the positives:
“The key takeaway from this weekend is how well he performed in practice and qualifying. People forget these guys are still kids. He was obviously emotional, but once he reflects on the experience, he’ll realize how much he can learn from it. He has a bright future ahead.”
Ralf Schumacher Criticizes Marko’s Harshness
Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher wasn’t impressed by Marko’s attitude.
“I wouldn’t have cried myself, but this was a tough moment for a young driver. It was his first race, and until that mistake, he had done a fantastic job. It’s crushing to let the team down, especially at Red Bull, where the pressure is immense. Honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with showing emotion.”
Hadjar Finds Support Elsewhere
Fortunately, Hadjar received encouragement from Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer, who defended him:
“This can happen to anyone in those conditions. A tiny mistake, and everything is gone.”
The team is already looking ahead, with team principal Laurent Mekies confident that Hadjar will bounce back:
“He’ll learn from this and turn his frustration into positive energy for the next race. We’ll be there to support him, and we won’t let this overshadow the great moments from his weekend.”
Hadjar himself appreciated the backing from his team:
“It’s great to feel this support. It means a lot to me.”
With Shanghai up next, the young Frenchman now has a chance to prove that his Australian heartbreak was just a bump on the road to a promising career.
