Hadjar Hits SQ3 in Miami Chaos, Lawson Left in the Dust

French rookie Hadjar breaks into SQ3 against the odds as Lawson grapples with instability in a turbulent Miami Sprint Shootout.

Isack Hadjar delivered another standout performance in the Sprint Shootout qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix. Driving for Racing Bulls, the young Frenchman clinched ninth place and secured a spot in SQ3, despite never having raced on the Miami circuit before.

“Not bad at all. We had a solid session this morning, though the car felt a bit off with the changing conditions. I struggled in SQ1, managed to recover in SQ2, and somehow made it to SQ3 even though I didn’t think I would. I was in the wrong group and barely crossed the line in time,” Hadjar said. He now sets his sights on grabbing the final point in Saturday’s Sprint.

“There’s one point up for grabs. Albon is starting just ahead, so I’ll try to get him off the line. If not, it’s going to be tough.”

When asked by Canal+ about Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s pole position and what it means for the new wave of young talent, Hadjar kept it brief: “I don’t know, congrats.”

Meanwhile, Liam Lawson faced a tougher session. The Racing Bulls driver ended up 14th after what he described as a chaotic shootout.

“It was messy, totally different from free practice. We didn’t expect the conditions to change so much, which is frustrating,” Lawson said.

“The car felt decent this morning, but the balance was off in qualifying. We’ve got the race tomorrow to test a few things. There’s still a lot to review and analyze so we can improve and be in better shape for Sunday.”
