Bearman qualifies 11th, surpassing Hülkenberg, and eyes a promising Baku race.
Oliver Bearman made an impressive showing during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying. The Haas F1 driver, participating in his first full weekend, secured the 11th fastest time and was on the cusp of reaching Q3 but lamented a costly error.
“It was a challenging session, I was fortunate to make it to Q2 as I lost time due to yellow flags, and I was close to making Q3 if not for the mistake. I’m disappointed in myself, not for my qualification, but for the error that kept me from Q3 and gaining further experience,” Bearman remarked.
Nonetheless, the British driver remains optimistic about the race following a solid preparation yesterday: “I felt really comfortable in the car with fuel yesterday, I have high hopes as I felt good and am looking forward to a strong race.”
Nico Hülkenberg was also ousted in Q2, bested by Bearman.
“We pushed the car to its limits during the session and kudos to Ollie for his performance,” Hülkenberg commented.
“We lacked a bit to make it to Q3, and scoring points tomorrow won’t be easy as the Williams seem to be the best of the rest this weekend. Both drivers are in good form which doesn’t bode well for us moving forward this season!”
“Of course, anything can happen in Baku with several safety cars likely, so we’ll aim to be at the top of our strategy game, although luck also plays a part in these conditions.”
