In the latest qualifying rounds, Hülkenberg excels, reaching SQ3, while Magnussen falters after a promising SQ1.
Nico Hülkenberg once again managed to make it into the top 10 during the Sprint qualifying in Miami. The Haas F1 driver is pleased as he started his day with a challenging free practice session. However, the German managed to turn things around.
“This morning, I was not feeling good in the car at all, but sometimes it takes a moment to find your bearings, and we managed to fine-tune the settings for this afternoon,” Hülkenberg said with satisfaction. “It’s tricky as you know, with the Sprint, you only get one free practice session.”
“We got a bit lucky in SQ1 to make it through as I was on the verge of going off. It wasn’t a very clean lap on my part. In SQ2, it was very clean and well executed. In SQ3, we only used one set of worn soft tires, so we have more for tomorrow and Sunday, but it was tight.”
Kevin Magnussen was third in SQ1 but missed his lap in SQ2 and failed to make it through this second part: “I had a good pace and showed it in SQ1, but I couldn’t deliver a good lap in SQ2. It went wrong at turn 7, I braked too late and missed the apex, and the lap was over.”
“The previous lap, I had traffic, so I didn’t have a time banked, but the pace in the car is good. Let’s see what happens tomorrow because I think we have a car that can overtake here and I hope we will have the pace in the sprint to move forward as well.”
