Haas F1's Hülkenberg Magnussen Ready for Dutch Clash

Hülkenberg and Magnussen Rev Up for Zandvoort GP

21/08/2024

Haas F1’s Hülkenberg revisits familiar Zandvoort, while Magnussen praises its cool factor ahead of the Dutch GP.

The Haas F1 team is set to hit the racetracks again, with its drivers ready for the challenge. Among them is Nico Hülkenberg, who is looking forward to returning to the Dutch Grand Prix and the Zandvoort circuit, a track he has long been acquainted with.

“Zandvoort is a circuit I have frequented throughout my career in feeder series and before Formula 1: Formula BMW, A1 Grand Prix, F3—indeed, very fond memories,” stated Hülkenberg.

“It’s a place that’s very familiar to me, and also because where I come from, it’s very close to the Dutch border—it’s a special feeling and a special race for me. It’s a great place, with a good vibe, the Dutch ‘orange army’ is present in force and it’s a big celebration.”

“It’s a short, very old, narrow, and tight track. It’s quite difficult to overtake. It’s a relatively small circuit for the modern big Formula 1 cars, but it’s always fun and challenging to drive.”

Kevin Magnussen is pleased to restart the season at Zandvoort, on a traditional circuit he greatly enjoys and where he aims to excel: “The Dutch Grand Prix has an insane atmosphere with the Orange Army, which represents about 99% of the fans.”

“It’s a very cool circuit for Formula 1, as it’s very old and hasn’t changed much since the 70s. I love racing at Zandvoort because it’s a driver’s circuit. When you push there, you’re really pushing the limits. I’ll be rested and ready to tackle the second half of the season.”

Ayao Komatsu, the team director, outlines the challenges that are interesting to overcome, but also what he enjoys about this particular race: “Zandvoort is an intriguing circuit with a lot of elevation and camber changes, and the last corner is very interesting.”

“Its other features are that it includes a mix of low to medium speed turns, it’s a high downforce circuit and overtaking is quite difficult.”

“The atmosphere at Zandvoort is very unique, more akin to a football stadium than a Formula 1 race, especially before the race, on the grid, with the music and the orange army. It’s very special and quite unusual if you’re only accustomed to F1. I enjoy it because it’s a unique atmosphere.”
