Haas F1 left Imola with mixed emotions, finishing just outside the top 10. Despite strong performances, the team missed out on points, leaving director Ayao Komatsu with both praise and regret.
Both Haas F1 drivers finished just outside the top 10 at Imola, with Nico Hülkenberg ahead of Kevin Magnussen. Their director, Ayao Komatsu, praised the team’s efforts but regretted that the American team couldn’t secure any points.
However, he was pleased that Magnussen avoided errors, particularly as he is two points away from a race suspension. He also lamented the strategy that didn’t benefit Hülkenberg against a rival team.
“Once again, just like after qualifying, we have slightly mixed feelings after the race,” Komatsu explained. “I think Kevin had a very good, clean race, especially after Miami, and I think he delivered on his promise.”
“He would have had a good chance to score points with a tenth-place finish if not for the timing of his pit stop. The pit stop itself wasn’t great, but we simply took too many risks by delaying the stop for so long, which is frustrating. The positive here is that Kevin drove very well and deserved to score points.”
“It was a bit tricky for Nico as he was battling against two RB F1 cars, our main competitor. He had a good race, but stopping so early in terms of hard tire degradation wasn’t easy, so in hindsight, we would have probably done something different strategy-wise.”
“Overall, it’s very positive that we’ve completed seven races and in each one we are either in the points or on the verge of scoring. But there is no margin. I’m encouraged by all of this and look forward to seeing our drivers’ talents shine in Monaco.”
