Haas F1 announces Bearman’s race debut at Interlagos as Magnussen’s replacement following the Dane’s unexpected health setback.
Following the morning announcement that Oliver Bearman would replace Kevin Magnussen for the Sprint Qualifying and thus for the Sprint itself, Haas F1 has confirmed that the Danish driver will not return for the main qualifying session and race.
As a result, Bearman will be driving for Haas F1 throughout the entire weekend at Interlagos in the VF-24, lining up alongside Nico Hülkenberg. The British driver made an immediate impact on Friday by reaching SQ3 and securing tenth on the grid for the Sprint.
“Haas F1 Team can confirm that Kevin Magnussen will not participate in the São Paulo Grand Prix, and Oliver Bearman will race for the team until the end of the weekend,” the team said in a statement, confirming that Magnussen is experiencing nausea symptoms.
This additional track time provides further preparation for Haas’ future full-time driver, marking his third race of the season, though it will cost him his rookie status. The team will likely need to apply for an exemption to allow him to participate in the post-season young drivers’ test in Abu Dhabi.
