After a disastrous Melbourne, Haas regrouped fast, earning praise from Komatsu for tackling issues directly and turning results around quickly.
After a nightmare weekend in Melbourne, Haas F1 has bounced back in style, now sitting fifth in the Constructors’ Championship. For Team Principal Ayao Komatsu, the swift turnaround is more than just a relief, it’s a sign of true team growth.
“This is Formula 1, things can change fast, and we all know it,” Komatsu said. “In Melbourne, every day we were on calls with our teams in Italy and the UK, working together, sharing ideas, and building a plan for the races ahead.”
That plan is already paying off. Solid performances in Shanghai, Suzuka, and Bahrain show a team on the rise—even if it’s not all perfect just yet.
“What makes me genuinely proud is how we handled it. There was no blame game, no finger-pointing. We all acknowledged the problem, took it seriously, and tackled it together,” Komatsu added. “This team has grown. We believe in each other, and we support each other.”
Both drivers, Esteban and Ollie, have been crucial to the progress. “They’ve been right in the middle of it all—exactly what we needed.”
Looking ahead to Jeddah, Komatsu is keeping expectations grounded.
“Of course, we’ll give everything this weekend. But let’s be real—we haven’t completely fixed the car’s core issues. They’re still there, just not nearly as bad as they were in Melbourne. That’s partly thanks to the tracks we’ve been on, partly due to upgrades. But we know there’s more work to do.”
“My mindset? Stay grounded, stay open. Take it race by race. Focus on getting the car in the best window and making the most of what we’ve got.”
