Albon Eyes Speed at Monza, Colapinto Keen

29/08/2024

Albon aims for a swift Monza showing as Colapinto readies for his debut, marking a crucial weekend for Williams.

Williams F1 will be one of the most scrutinized teams this weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, following Logan Sargeant’s dismissal after his Zandvoort crash. Alex Albon offered words for his former teammate.

“Firstly, Logan has been an excellent team player over the last two years, and I know what he is capable of, so it’s just a matter of time before he proves that to everyone in whatever he chooses to do next,” Albon stated.

“As for Zandvoort, the weekend was tough and it is crucial for the team to examine the processes that led to the disqualification, while acknowledging that the car was competitive. We have always had a fast car at Monza, so I hope we can secure a good result and score points.”

Franco Colapinto, replacing Sargeant, knows the task will be significant for him, but he is ready to tackle it at Monza: “I am looking forward to experiencing my first full weekend in F1. It’s an exciting challenge and I am ready to give my all for this team.”

“Making my debut at the Temple of Speed is special, as it is an iconic circuit where I have succeeded in the past. My goal is to soak everything up, learn as much as possible, and build up speed from the first practice session. I hope we will have a positive weekend as a team.”

Sven Smeets, the sporting director, naturally sets different goals for his two drivers this weekend: “We are looking forward to racing at Monza, as it is a unique circuit that should suit the FW46 well.”

“We will aim to score points with Alex, while for Franco, it will be about learning in each session and building confidence and speed ahead of qualifying and the race.”

“The weather should be mild throughout the weekend, with temperatures above 30°C, making it a major event for the thousands of fans and a fitting close to the European part of the championship.”
