Pierre Gasly opens up on his struggle between ambition and reality, revealing why setting season goals feels like a challenge.
Pierre Gasly revealed that he strongly dislikes setting goals at the start of a season. The Alpine F1 driver was asked what he would consider a successful season, and he was not pleased with the question, as there is a gap between his ambitions and reality.
“I hate this question,” Gasly told Mail Sport. “If you ask me, I want to win every race, but I know that won’t be possible this year.”
“But it’s important for us to build a strong foundation to ensure we make the most of 2026, which I see as a huge opportunity for the team. That means we need to be at our best this year and get the maximum out of the car we have.”
“If we can build on how we ended last season and regularly fight for points, that will be a big step forward, but I really want to lay the groundwork for 2026. Last year was a big challenge, especially mentally at the start, which was very tough.”
“But I’m really proud of how the team managed to turn things around. The end of the year was quite impressive given how we started. There’s great momentum now, lots of motivation, a strong team spirit, and I see many improvements that I hope we can show on the track.”
Gasly also explained why he created the padel structure 10Padel and invested in FC Versailles: “From a young age, I’ve been passionate about sports, playing football, ice hockey, and tennis.”
“I always have to find a way to stay competitive. Outside of F1, football and padel are my two favorite sports. And I’ve always wanted to get involved in football. I like the FC Versailles project and what we’re trying to achieve there.”
“And I like what we’ve started with 10Padel. I find all of this fascinating. My whole life has been dedicated to F1, but I’m a very curious person, and I need to have other interests beyond the world of motorsport.”
To name just a few: Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz, Alexander Albon, and Charles Leclerc are all padel enthusiasts.
“We all agree on organizing a padel tournament among us (drivers). It could happen this year. We enjoy playing. We often play together, and the competition is pretty intense, which makes it fun. There’s no standout player, though I’ve been told the Spaniards are quite good, but I haven’t played against Carlos or Fernando yet.”
