Gasly Reflects on Alpine Goals and Clean Race Record

Gasly: Zero Damage and Three Goals Fulfilled in 2024

10/12/2024

Pierre Gasly celebrates achieving his three objectives, including a flawless record with no damages to his Alpine A524 this season.

Pierre Gasly revealed that beyond his sporting objectives, he aimed to finish the season without any accidents in the final race. Remarkably, the Alpine F1 driver managed to avoid crashes throughout a demanding 24-race season.

Though involved in on-track incidents, such as clashes with Esteban Ocon in Monaco—where Ocon was overly optimistic—and Suzuka after a chaotic start, Gasly takes pride in a clean record with “zero dollars in damages,” even if this figure is unofficial and unsupported by the team.

“Coming into the weekend, I had three goals,” he said, reflecting on the team’s progress this season. “Sixth in the Constructors’ standings, tenth in the Drivers’ standings, and staying clean. We’ve achieved all three, and we’re still at zero dollars in damage.”

“The first part of the season was very tough for everyone on the team, with a car that lacked performance. But I’m really proud of how the guys responded and managed to bring so much improvement, giving me a car in the later races that allowed me to perform very, very well.”

“It shows we’re heading in the right direction, and the mindset and spirit within the team are right. I noticed all these positive changes back in April and May, though they don’t immediately translate to results on track. A few months later, we reaped those rewards.”

When asked about his clean record and responsibility for avoiding damage, the French driver joked, “It’s easier to insure my cars in my home country.”

“It’s a good start. Ultimately, it’s very important for the team because that money counts towards the budget cap, playing a role in development throughout the year and providing the team with parts and financial resources. I’ll try to keep it this way until the end of the year.”
