Gasly Asserts Ocon Ideal Benchmark for Rookie Bearman

Gasly: Bearman to Face Tough Test with Ocon at Haas

12/08/2024

Gasly backs Bearman to rise to the challenge with Ocon as a solid benchmark at Haas F1.

Esteban Ocon will move to Haas F1 next year where he is set to assume a natural leadership role within the American team, as he will be paired with the promising rookie, Ollie Bearman.

The current Alpine F1 driver will thus conclude his partnership with Pierre Gasly, which, despite its share of tensions, has proven to be less tumultuous than some had anticipated.

What does the future hold for Bearman alongside Ocon next year? This was posed to Gasly.

“I think as a driver, it’s very clear what you need to do in Formula 1—you have to showcase your talent. It’s all about speed. And Esteban is a tough customer.”

“Obviously, Ollie is coming in as a Formula 1 novice, so he has no experience with the challenges of F1, which involve different challenges that you might not have faced earlier in your career.”

“Also, suddenly, you have 24 races, it’s a long season, it’s more physical, far more demanding from a team perspective, you’re working with a thousand people, suddenly, you’re able to have a real impact on the development of the car, the car parts, the work on the simulator, the media exposure.”

“He needs to find his footing in this environment, he already has good experience but it will be a good benchmark for Ollie to have Esteban by his side.”

Gasly also commented on Ocon’s upcoming move to Haas F1.

“On a personal level, I’m pleased to see that Esteban is staying in F1 because regardless of our relationship, I think he is definitely a driver who deserves to be in Formula 1 and who is among the top 20, so I think it’s great and I’m happy to see he’ll still be on the grid next year.”
