Lando Norris reflects on a tough Sprint in China, where early mistakes and poor pace left him disappointed with P8.
Norris was left frustrated after finishing eighth in the Chinese Grand Prix Sprint, admitting both his qualifying and race performance fell short.
Starting from sixth, the McLaren driver dropped to ninth after a costly mistake at Turn 6 on the opening lap. Caught off guard by a car ahead, Norris ran wide onto the grass and lost ground early on.
“I had a really bad first lap. I went onto the grass before Turn 6 and gave up a few positions,” Norris explained. “When you start further back, everything gets harder.”
He spent most of the 100km Sprint stuck in ninth before finally overtaking Lance Stroll near the end to salvage a single point.
While he acknowledged that a poor qualifying session left him on the back foot, Norris didn’t shy away from owning up to his overall performance.
“Qualifying didn’t help, but honestly, I just wasn’t very good today,” he said bluntly.
