From Last to Points: Haas Defy Odds with Bahrain Charge

Against all expectations, Haas drivers clawed back from qualifying woes to score a stunning double points finish in the desert heat.

Team Principal Ayao Komatsu was all smiles in Bahrain after an unexpected turnaround from Haas F1, with both Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman finishing in the points — a result few saw coming after a rough Saturday.

Ocon had crashed out in Q2, and Bearman was knocked out in Q1 with the slowest time of the session. Expectations were low. But Sunday told a completely different story: Ocon brought the car home in 8th, Bearman in 10th.

For Komatsu, it was a moment of pride — and proof that the team knows how to bounce back.

“What a race day! I’m genuinely happy,” Komatsu said after the Grand Prix. “After the disappointment in qualifying, no one gave up. Everyone stayed focused.”

“We came into the race knowing we had pace, and we had two drivers capable of delivering. A double points finish wasn’t something we were expecting — but the way we executed the race, the way the drivers drove, we showed confidence and made bold calls. Nothing felt out of reach.”

He credited the whole team for staying resilient.

“It’s easy to enjoy the good days,” Komatsu added. “But it takes real character to come back from a tough one like we had in qualifying. That performance was a true team effort — and one we can all be proud of.”
