20/12/2024

Isack Hadjar steps into Formula 1 with Racing Bulls, replacing Liam Lawson, who moves up to Red Bull Racing in 2025.

It is now official with the announcement just released: Isack Hadjar has been promoted from Formula 2 to Formula 1 by Red Bull, joining its junior team, Racing Bulls.

The driver, who holds dual French-Algerian nationality, was born on September 28, 2004, in Paris and competes under a French racing license. This makes him the third Frenchman on the 2025 starting grid, alongside Pierre Gasly with Alpine F1 and Esteban Ocon with Haas F1.

Hadjar narrowly missed out on the F2 title this year with Campos Racing but had thoroughly convinced Christian Horner and Dr. Helmut Marko that he was ready to step into the next available seat in their F1 teams.

With Sergio Pérez’s departure from Red Bull Racing and Liam Lawson’s promotion yesterday, a seat opens up for Hadjar alongside Yuki Tsunoda. Two fiery drivers for Racing Bulls!

Laurent Mekies, Racing Bulls’ team principal, first had a word for Lawson as he leaves the team.

“Congratulations to Liam! Everyone at Racing Bulls is incredibly proud to see Liam promoted to Red Bull Racing, even though, of course, we would have liked to keep him a bit longer. But one of our primary missions is to serve as a talent incubator for the larger Red Bull family, and seeing Liam take this step is a testament to his work and ours this year. We wish him the best of luck—he’s going to be fantastic, and we can’t wait to see what he achieves on track in 2025.”

The French driver expressed his excitement at securing this opportunity and teaming up with Tsunoda: “I am thrilled to step into my new role with Racing Bulls. This is a huge moment for me, my family, and everyone who has believed in me since the beginning.”

“The journey from karting to single-seaters and now to Formula 1 is the moment I have worked my entire life for—it’s the dream. I feel like I am entering a whole new universe, driving a much faster car, and competing against the best drivers in the world.”

“This will be a steep learning curve, but I am ready to work hard and give my best for the team. I am excited to work with Yuki and learn from him. I have always admired him—he came through the Red Bull Junior program like me, and we’ve shared a similar path to F1. He is highly experienced, and it will be great to learn alongside him.”

Mekies expressed his delight at welcoming his compatriot to the team and looks forward to seeing the duo of Hadjar and Tsunoda in action: “We are thrilled to have Isack join us next year, as he will bring a fresh dynamic to the team alongside Yuki in 2025.”

“His journey to Formula 1 has been truly remarkable. He has demonstrated exceptional growth with a string of impressive results in junior categories. He has the talent and determination required to compete at the highest level, and we are confident he will adapt quickly and make a significant impact.”

“I believe Isack and Yuki will form an excellent team. Yuki brings invaluable experience to the table, having shown incredible resilience and maturity, which will be crucial as we aim to achieve all our goals and targets in 2025.”

Peter Bayer, CEO of Racing Bulls, also praised the decision and highlighted the role of the Red Bull academy in identifying young talent: “First of all, we must congratulate Liam on his move to Oracle Red Bull Racing. As a sister team and talent incubator in Formula 1, our strategic goal is to nurture and elevate our drivers to prepare them for this next step.”

“This decision, along with Isack’s arrival at Racing Bulls, underscores our long-standing commitment to developing the best young drivers in motorsport and validates the strength of the program. Having a younger driver aligns with our mission to engage with a younger audience, and we look forward to taking fans, both new and old, on this journey with us.”
