With Verstappen’s Red Bull future uncertain, four top teams are quietly exploring options to lure the world champion into their garages.

Max Verstappen’s future in Formula 1 could take a dramatic turn, with up to four teams reportedly on his radar—if he decides to leave Red Bull Racing at the end of the season.

Behind the scenes, talks are already underway. Verstappen’s inner circle—his father Jos and long-time advisor Raymond Vermeulen—have reportedly opened lines of communication with both Mercedes and Aston Martin.

But according to former F1 driver and German TV pundit Ralf Schumacher, those aren’t the only teams in play.

“There’s a spot for Max just about anywhere,” Schumacher said. “Once again this year, he’s shown how much of a difference a driver like him can make.”

Schumacher believes Mercedes will move mountains to bring Verstappen onboard if the opportunity arises. But he also sees McLaren as a serious contender.

“I think Zak Brown would jump at the chance,” he added. “McLaren reached out to Max before locking down Piastri with a long-term deal, and if a driver like Verstappen becomes available, you find a way to make it work—even if it means breaking contracts.”

According to Schumacher, there could be exit clauses in existing deals that wouldn’t cost much—if it’s Verstappen stepping in.

But the real surprise? Alpine.

“People forget about Alpine,” he said. “But Flavio Briatore knows how to spot talent. The team’s switching to Mercedes power units next year, and look at Pierre Gasly’s performance in Bahrain—P5 in qualifying and the same in the race. That car might be better than we think.”

With Mercedes engines and Briatore working behind the scenes, Schumacher believes Alpine could quietly become a real contender in the Verstappen sweepstakes.

“Flavio operates in the shadows. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already talking to Jos or Raymond.”

So, who could land Max if he decides to make a move?

Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren… and yes, even Alpine.
Four teams. One generational talent. Let the bidding war begin.
