Norris laments poor strategic choices that led to his loss in a pivotal McLaren F1 race.
Lando Norris did not hide his bitterness at the conclusion of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. During the initial downpour, he took the lead in the race but made a critical error by stopping one lap too late to switch to intermediate tyres.
Later, as he changed back to slick tyres towards the end of the race, he again pitted a lap after the other two leaders, costing him valuable time. He opted for soft tyres while having medium ones available, which neither Lewis Hamilton nor Max Verstappen had at their disposal.
“Firstly, hats off to Lewis, the decision-making was critical at the end, and they made the right choice. It’s tough, the race was enjoyable, and it was great to battle against them as always, so everything was fine, but too many mistakes today. As a team, we didn’t perform as we should have, but it’s good to be on the podium,” Norris stated.
While he mentioned team decision-making, he particularly blamed himself for his choice of tyres and the timing of his pit stops: “I’m not making the right decisions, and I really regret not making the right ones today.”
“I hate finishing in this position and not having an excuse for not doing a better job. But I’m still happy, there’s a lot of positives, but Silverstone is the place where you want everything to be perfect. It wasn’t today, but we will return next year and try again.”
