Carlos Sainz grapples with Ferrari’s SF-24, describing it as unpredictable and challenging in wet conditions, undermining his usual wet-weather prowess.
Sainz’s accidents in wet conditions in Brazil and Canada earlier this season have dented his reputation as a driver capable of excelling in challenging circumstances.
The Ferrari driver was keen to defend himself, explaining that his struggles in the rain this season stemmed solely from difficulties with the SF-24.
“I’ve always been a very strong driver in the wet,” he emphasised.
“But for some reason, ever since I’ve tried this car in the rain this year, I’ve never felt comfortable with it.”
“I’m not sure if it’s because we’re not putting enough energy into the tyres, if the setup’s just too rigid at medium and high speeds, or something else.”
“It’s clear that it’s very unpredictable and extremely hard to handle.”
“I’m glad Charles [Leclerc] managed to bring it home in 5th. I’ve heard he also struggled to keep it under control.”
“So, honestly, it was a bit of a nightmare, the whole race. But yes, dry races are ahead, and we’ll keep pushing to close the gap on McLaren in the standings.”
