Hamilton’s Ferrari Move Driven by Titles Not Leisure - Vasseur

Vasseur: Hamilton Joins Ferrari to Chase Titles, Not Relax

Fred Vasseur confirms Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari switch is driven by ambition, with both team and driver focused solely on championships.

Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari won’t be a “vacation,” assured Fred Vasseur.

The British driver’s transfer early next year will bring together the most decorated driver in Formula 1 with the sport’s most successful team.

However, this isn’t a swan song for the end of his career, according to Ferrari’s team principal, who commented amid questions surrounding the seven-time world champion’s performances compared to George Russell.

Speaking to Gazzetta about Hamilton’s recruitment, Vasseur said, “It wasn’t difficult, actually.”

“Ferrari has always been on his mind, and now the stars have aligned.”

“But he’s coming to win, not to take a vacation. And I’m confident we have everything we need to aim for titles together.”

Hamilton will form an exciting partnership with Charles Leclerc, who has his own ambition to win Grands Prix and championships. Leclerc’s journey with the famed Italian constructor began much earlier than Hamilton’s.

“Charles has never been arrogant; he’s someone who always works hard. Sometimes he’s even made mistakes, but that’s part of his growth process.”

“We haven’t agreed on the exact day we first met; he says a date, but I wasn’t there that day. Our relationship is special. If I make a mistake, he looks at me, and I know what he means.”

Leclerc confirms: “There’s no filter between us, even though in F1, it’s harder to be ‘honest,’ but Frédéric tells me things straight; he’s very good at keeping me focused.”

Vasseur expects a good dynamic in his new driver pairing, similar to what he currently experiences with Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

“I think it’s essential to have a strong relationship, not just to talk about understeer or anything related to racing. It’s a passion, and it’s crucial to have balance and a good environment around you to achieve great results.”

“I believe Charles has that. Just as I believe that competition between drivers helps the team grow. And the competition between Carlos Sainz and Charles has been huge in this sense.”

“I expect the same with Lewis. I know him well, and I see no incompatibility between them.”
