Ferrari’s Strategic Upgrades: A Tenth Can Transform

10/05/2024

Ferrari is banking on crucial upgrades, knowing even a minor improvement could dramatically alter race dynamics.

As the Ferrari SF-24 is set to receive several significant improvements for Imola, Frédéric Vasseur stated that although the new parts may not make a huge difference in terms of performance, the field is now so tight that even an additional tenth in qualifying can make a huge difference.

“Two of our competitors, McLaren and Mercedes, brought parts to Miami, and ultimately it didn’t change the game significantly.”

“From our side, we have now had some reflection and a good understanding of the development needed, which led us to the current car over the winter. And when we bring something, it’s never a ‘mega’ evolution.”

“But it can make a difference. It’s true that when you’re in qualifying and you have four or five cars within a tenth, if you bring a tenth, it changes the game for the weekend.”

“However, a large part of the result also comes from what we do with the drivers and the car settings during the weekend, the management of the tires.”

“We must not think only about the upgrades and development. It’s also the work we do on track that counts.”
