Sainz: Ferrari Eyes Strong Finish as SF-24 Shows Promise

24/10/2024

Ferrari’s resurgence boosts optimism for Sainz, with strong SF-24 performance ahead of the season’s five remaining races.

Carlos Sainz arrived at the paddock of the Rodríguez Brothers circuit in Mexico highly motivated following Ferrari’s performance in Austin.

Like his teammate, he believes the updates to the red car have taken the right direction, giving them a shot at the Constructors’ title.

“We said the Circuit of the Americas would be the litmus test to see how well we’ve developed the SF-24, and I’d say it passed the test.”

“We saw in qualifying that, in long-radius fast corners, we’re not yet the best, but without a doubt, we’ve made a clear step forward. This was evident, as in race configuration we were the fastest, even in the first sector.”

For this reason, Sainz expressed confidence for the near future. The Spaniard sees Ferrari performing strongly at all the remaining circuits, except one.

“I believe we now have a car that allows us to fight for victory at every circuit ahead, perhaps with the exception of Qatar. That doesn’t necessarily mean we will win, but it’s within reach.”

“As I’ve mentioned, in qualifying, we’re not the best, and on certain tracks like Abu Dhabi, overtaking is very difficult. Hoping to win from fourth on the grid isn’t always realistic. But we are clearly aiming to remain at the front for the rest of the season.”

This weekend, Sainz’s goal is “to be among the frontrunners. If we manage that and qualify on the first two rows, we’ll have a say in the race. It would be great to continue the momentum from Austin, as I’m sure the Constructors’ title is still within reach. We’ll know more after tomorrow’s free practice, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
