Ferrari is making waves in Melbourne, but while Charles Leclerc is already feeling the car’s potential, Lewis Hamilton admits he’s still getting used to his new ride.

Hamilton: A Work in Progress

After wrapping up Friday’s free practice sessions, Hamilton was candid about his ongoing adaptation to the SF-25. The seven-time world champion finished FP2 in fifth place, 0.42s behind Leclerc, who topped the session. Earlier in FP1, Hamilton placed 12th, highlighting his learning curve.

“It’s incredible to drive a Ferrari here,” Hamilton said. “But the car feels so different from anything I’ve driven on this track. FP1 was about getting used to it.”

Things improved slightly in FP2. “It was better, but it’s all about progress. We’re improving slowly, step by step.”

When asked how the car felt, Hamilton kept it simple: “Just different. Very different.” He emphasized that while the car isn’t difficult to drive, it demands a new approach. “I’m adjusting my style little by little, but I’m enjoying it.”

Leclerc Sees More to Unlock

Leclerc, who clocked the fastest time on Friday, sees Ferrari’s progress but isn’t getting carried away.

“We did a good job in preparation. The feeling is good,” he said. “Of course, there are things to improve. I’m still not completely happy with the balance, but compared to Bahrain, we’re in a much better place. There’s still more potential to unlock.”

Like the rest of the grid, Leclerc knows teams are still figuring out their limits. “These cars are new for everyone. You have to push them hard to understand where the limit really is.”

Ferrari’s first day was solid, but the real test comes on Saturday. “We’ll see how it goes tomorrow when we push a little more.”

With Hamilton still adapting and Leclerc feeling optimistic, Ferrari’s weekend in Melbourne is shaping up to be an exciting one.
